Ever since the demise of my 5g ipod (R.I.P.) I have been having to use a smart playlist for good ol’ greeny (ipod mini from 2003). This playlist loads the last 3 months of new additions to the itunes library. Currently, I have a (respectable?) 4800 songs. That being said, only about 900 or so actually make it on to the ipod during the sync. So, until Apple releases the new ipod (with iphone-like slickness) then this is where it’s at for now.
A note on the rating system- 0 to 5 stars (0 meaning the cd is horrible trash that “deserves a slow, torture-filled death” and 5 meaning “I can’t believe I have lived without hearing this every hour of my waking life”)
Without futher ado, I personally recommend the following bands (albums)…
Arcade Fire [Neon Bible]
Mika [Life in Cartoon Motion]
Beck [The Information]- yeah, I know Beck’s still around and making music!
Bloc Party [Silent Alarm]
The Caesars [Paper Tigers]- they sing the song “Jerk It Out.”
Death Cab for Cutie [The Photo Album]
The Fratellis [Costello Music]- their song “Flathead” is the current ipod commercial song. I like to think of them as the Irish Andrew W.K.
Gym Class Heroes [As Cruel As School Children]
Jack Johnson [In Between Dreams]- he did the Curious George soundtrack.
If you like soft, thoughtful lyrics that take you to a rather serene place, Jack Johnson is for you. Always a great listen when your day is stress-filled. Link above is to “Banana Pancakes” which helps to put some of the simple things in life in perspective.
Kaiser Chiefs [Yours Truly, Angry Mob]
Mat Kearney [Nothing Left To Lose]- made famous by Grey’s Anatomy.
Truly a great singer-songwriter. I don’t even mind the little bit of semi-rapping he does throughout some of the songs. Have listen to the song “Undeniable” (link below).
Anyone have a good recommendations for me for the month of April? I’m always open to new things.

I find the post quite relevant for right now… And I love Jack Johnson and look forward to trying out some of your other recommendations on the list.
Good call on the Jack Johnson. Have them all except the curious George soundtrack and they are all great.
Have you ever heard of the Clintons? Kinda country, kinda pop, kinda Barenaked Ladies for the US. Not bad. In iTunes or at music.podshow.com.
Another favorite of mine has always been Concrete Blonde. Also in the iTMS. Check out bloodletting. A bit dark and very lush for a rock album.
BTW, nice layout. This looks cool!
I’ve heard of the Clinton’s (not Hilary) but have never listened to their music- I’ll check them out on iTunes. Same goes for Concrete Blonde.
As for the layour, I’ve got to give full credit to N.Design Studio- maybe one day I can become half as talented at web design.
