How to warm a tortilla

How to warm a tortilla, originally uploaded by c2jupin.

Sorry I haven’t written in a while. At any rate we’re in Charleston this weekend. On the way there Anita decided to make some turkey wraps for the beach (yes, in the car). We learned that heating the tortillas helped in the wrapping process. Like my heating solution? Talk about the stares we got from passing cars.

Check back later this weekend for more pictures.

Heat re-activates the fat (usually vegetable shortening) which makes the tortilla’s soft and yummy again.

Did you know that tortillas have an inside and an outside too? If I have it in my hand, I can sometimes tell the difference.

See Mom. Working in a Mexican restaurant for 13 years wasn’t a total waste! ;)

Along similiar lines…Gummy bears melt in cars and then re-solidify when cooled down. I think I might make a couple of custom gummy critters. However, I will probably use the more conventional oven to do my heating.

@DB- Wow, I enjoy the science behind it! And no, I had no clue that tortillas had an “inside.” One thing I do enjoy about many typical Mexican restaurants though is the ability to order by numbers (Combination #1-48).

@Josh- I’m not a fan of gummy bears because they get stuck in my teeth. Gummy worms are slimy, though. Your suggestion sounds like something Alton Brown would say (which is cool).

@All- what this picture does not show is the litany of problems my wife and I encountered on the drive back in the 2004 Accord (yes, we’re seriously considering selling it next year…). List of possible replacements now include MINI Clubman, Audi A3, Volvo C30, Volkswagen GTI, or maybe the BMW 1. Kelly Blue Book on the Honda is actually quite good…I’ve never had this much trouble with a car. Just because it comes from Honda doesn’t make it bulletproof, people! If they make a million cars and 1000 are bad, that’s still within quality control!!

Rant off. More to come.

Well, you know which way my vote would go ;)

If she gets the BMW 135i you will have some serious issues with a stalker. And I won’t be stalking Anita either. I lust after that car. I’m just warning you! However, all plausible jealousy aside, I would take a look at the GTI. Another Mini would be a bit…Too much maybe? Audi has always had those quality control issues you speak of. If you get the volvo then you’re required to have a kid by state law. All in all…I can’t recommend a car like the 1 series because its a first year car. However…the 335I engine has been pretty much bullet proof thus far. Tough call…but the GTI shines above all the rest if you ask me. Not to mention if you get a black one it would be the Antithesis to your white mini. Yin and Yang baby!

Update:

To make a long story short the Honda has had a litany of issues- the most recent being YET ANOTHER dead battery (we are now on the THIRD battery..car is 2004). Granted, there was also the suspension problem last year (which they rectified by using a piece of cardboard).

That being said we’re thinking it might be time to sell the car now that it’s out of warranty and still has low mileage.

I take back what I said about the Volvo C30- it has the UGLIEST HATCH I have ever seen. And I need to remember that Volvo is owned by Ford (ick). I would truly LOVE to have the Clubman…but, Anita is leaning more towards either the Audi or a Volkswagen. I realize these cars don’t have as much “character” but maybe it could work. I checked the Audi A3 on consumer reports and it’s rated very well…I’m leaning that way (finding one stripped down may be hard, though).

However, I’m open for ANY other suggestions…for a hot second I thought the Mazda 3 (hatch) looked pretty cool.

Ideas?

The Mazda 3 looks cool, but has a horrible ride. Definitely might want to test drive first.

Maybe the new xB? I kinda dig the new design.

Wow, I had no idea you were hard at work getting suggestions on what my (potential) new car should be. I have to admit, I feel kind of bad “hating” on my current car. I mean, she’s still my baby even though I kicked her tires a lot this weekend out of frustration. She’s been a fun car and a solid car, minus these issues we can’t seem to get rid of. However, all things considered perhaps these tiny reoccurring problems are a sign of something bigger to come in which case I say we sell within 6-8 months while it is still tremendously holding its value. I am definitely liking what I’ve seen so far with the VW and the Audi but I’m curious what else is out there. I am now paying attention to all the cars in the parking lot when I go to the mall. It’s fun being on the market again but kind of stressful. Thanks for using your site and your friends for ideas and opinions. That helps. Keep pressing more for. I am goign to start getting on here for car help now too. :)

I LOVE the mini but admit that two minis might be hard to explain to the family when trying to decide who is going to pick them up from the airport. And I LOVE the new BMW 1 too but the first year car thing scares me a bit too. I like being a pioneer about some things, but maybe not a car. Though it’s still in the race, I want to research that bad boy a little more.

Not sure why I’m responding to you on here when you are coming home soon..

Alright…that’s it. It’s time to convert the website that’s a place for you to belittle me into Anita’s next car discussion. Each post dedicated to one car where the following comments will outline the pros and cons! This sounds like fun. I nominate the 1 series Bimmer (not yet released…however, how can you not have it), the GTI and the Infinit G35 (sedan or not). Get to work!
