Grilling With the New Weber

One thing missing in our lives as renters was the freedom to cook outdoors (without being arrested). That’s all been fixed. Behold- our newest outdoor addition to the family- the Classic Weber Silver Edition Charcoal Grill(e?).

First pictured listed is from Alton Brown’s famous grilled split chicken recipe. Best damn chicken I’ve ever had off a grill. No nasty char marks. No pretending that the chicken wasn’t dry. Nothing. This was PERFECT (recipe to follow later). I know it’s not the little green egg but for $80 it fits the bill nicely at our house.

I’ve been eyeing one of those Webers for a while now. The gas grill I have now is fairly bad ass and burns meat like nobody’s business, but it aint’ a weber.

And, can’t wait to see that chicken recipe. Looks mighty tasty!

BGE is the way to go. I’ve used one for over two years now. I can honestly say it’s the best grill i’ve EVER used. You can cook at temperatures as low as 150 or as high as 1500 (not that you will ever need to) if you feel like replacing the gasket.

I’ve wood fired pizza at 675. I’ve smoked brisket, chicken, quail, duck, goose, turkey, pork butt, ribs…well, to be honest I’ve tried to smoke anything you can put on a grill (I recommend the wine/chardonay barrell chips for poultry and hickory for anything else). You name it, I’ve put it in the BGE. It’s super versatile, but you will pay a price up front when you purchase it. They’re not cheap, but it’s DEFINITELY worth it.

FYI…I reccomend you get an electric starter and use ONLY hardwood charcoal. Don’t use that chemical stuff because it makes the food taste like chemicals. You can get hardwood charcoal at WallyWorld too.

@josh Yes, I will bow down to the big green egg. I realize it is the pinnacle of grilling perfection. However, I just don’t think i could spend the cash on it. But I have heard absolutely wonderful things about it (from you and others). For me, I tend to spend cash on gadgets that will outdated in a year ;-)

C’mon 3G iPhone!

@josh And no, I never use that kingston match fluid shit. You’re right- it will taste like a chemical experience if you use it. I bought some all natural charcoal at Kroger that’s been awesome.

Oh, and since you’re a gadget man, check out the “stoker” for your gadget/grilling pleasure. Yessir, this puppy is something that my Geek side desires as much as anything else. “Just set it and forget it” as some infomercial I’ve long since forgotten used to say. You can even set it up to be accessed from “the internets”. It’s pricey too, but this may just tempt your inner geek enough to splurge on it. ;-)

And I saw the write up on the chicken and the “lump” coal too late. Glad you’re not using Kingsford or whatever other shit they have out there. That stuff is horrid.
