Playing Around With Colors

Changing up the site a bit… new css book has inspired me to hack the theme a little. Going for an orange and gray (I never know if it’s grey or gray). One day I’ll build my own css file from scratch. Until then it’s hacking away at themes.

Let me know if you hate it or if something renders odd. Again, it’s SUPPOSED to be orange.

Update: New RSS button and sidebar colors to match.
Update 2: New favicon (refresh your browser) and switched the orange and gray. Also went with a darker shade of blue for sidebar headings. I think I’m getting closer to what I’d like this site to look like.
Update 3: Ok, trying out Google Adsense again. I get really good traffic for my one post involving a credit card scam so let’s see if this makes enough cash to buy a soda.

nice. The orange and blue are very cool, much like the Cabriolet ;)

You changed the font-family too didn’t you? Whatever you did, it’s pretty cool!

I did update the logo font (was american typewriter now helvetica). Might be time to mess around with the others.

As for the colors- you’re so right..didn’t realize it!

LOVE the new look! If you ever need CSS help, I’m your lady–it’s my current *obsession,* and a week from today I’ll be starting 6 weeks of CSS at school, so I’ll be itching to work with people on their sites! :-)

By the way, what blog program do you use, or do you? I’m getting tired of blogger…

If you are looking to get away from blogger might I recommend wordpress. I used to use blogger a million years ago and Wordpress is so much better. Check out wordpress.com to get the free version to see if you like it. If you want to host your own, hosting companies like Dreamhost or Site5 are cheap and have installers built right in.

@Amber/@db- db took the words right out of my mouth. Wordpress is all you need. Also, Anita’s using the freely hosted version of wordpress as well (I purchased a domain through dreamhost and had them install the wordpress software automatically). This offers more flexibility in terms of domain names, editing html/css, plugins, etc.

Thanks for the willingness to help with my css. I’ve taken ONE class in part of a certification program I started at Emory last month. that didn’t teach me too much and I’m slowly teaching myself using this book. Also purchased a text book on graphics design so hopefully that helps. Are you enjoying your internship?

@Chris & @db- Thanks for the advice. I will look into it!

Chris-What are you studying at Emory? That’s probably a great book. I have the CSS and HTML pocket references by the same publisher (HTML: http://www.amazon.com/HTML-XHTML-Pocket-Reference-OReilly/dp/0596527276/ref=pd_sim_b_60)–great for quick look-ups. I also like this one for a “basics” book (I’ll warn you that it seems a little juvenile and the graphics are terribly kitschy, but it’s a really easy read and a helpful way to learn these skills/languages): http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596101978/.

My internship was rather short-lived. The work I was assigned was not the work advertised in the job posting, so I resigned. I wasn’t going to spend the precious little time I have on something I didn’t sign up for! Now that I’m in web design, I’m building my own portfolio website and completely overhauling my jewelry website, so I’m pretty busy anyway, so I don’t miss the internship at all!

That’s enough about me. Let me know if you ever want to talk shop about web design–I LOVE it!

Here’s the program I started at Emory. So far I haven’t been overly impressed with the curriculum…seems that there’s a lot to cover and simply not enough time alloted to do so. I may stick it out but also seeing what other nearby schools offer.

Sorry to hear about your short-lived internship. However, that does free you up to work on your portfolio.
